Recently I've begun asking myself in what other ways can I embrace the idea of "layered". The painting Winged is one of the results. LAYER1: A small fox kit sits on a nuanced, creamy ground, in profile. She is watching something rather attentively, but it is outside the picture frame, so the viewer has to guess at what has grabbed her attention. LAYER 2: She is partially obscured by a layer of butterfly specimens, the smallest and most delicate seated at the top of the winged totem. LAYER 3: The presence of the butterflies changes the fox's ground to billowy clouds, and, as if to accent that, they travel

Lumbering is another of the pieces created in February as part of my Intuitive Painting online workshop.** I created three pieces during the filming of this course, all originating from the same idea (a fusion of Bear with the California landscape), each one remarkably different and carrying her own distinctive personality.
